As extreme heat continues to pose growing risks to communities across the United States, Climate Mayors releases its Extreme Heat Toolkit to support city leaders in protecting residents and strengthening local resilience. Developed in partnership with the Hazelwood Network and Switch 5, and building off of the work of Climate Mayors’ Extreme Heat Cohort led by Mayor Regina Romero and Mayor Daniella Levine Cava–this resource is informed by in-depth research conducted across five metropolitan regions: Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Washington State, and Wisconsin.

What did we learn? Residents told us that extreme heat is a health, affordability, and quality-of-life issue. They experience it through rising utility bills, disrupted routines, unsafe working conditions, and concern for vulnerable loved ones—and cities play a critical role helping residents navigate extreme heat.
