Rising household transportation costs, unsafe streets, air pollution, aging infrastructure, freight delays, and climate-driven disruptions all impact communities first—and Climate Mayors are on the front lines of addressing these challenges.

Local leaders need a stronger role in shaping transportation investments that reflect the needs of their communities. This means directing more federal funding directly to cities and regions, protecting core transportation programs, and giving mayors the flexibility to invest in solutions that improve mobility, affordability, and quality of life. Communities should have the resources to expand transportation choices, reduce costs for residents, and build systems that work for people today and in the future.

Climate Mayors are working to ensure federal transportation investments should also support cleaner, safer, and more resilient communities. That includes continued support for EV charging, transit, and the transition to cleaner vehicles while protecting funding for locally driven safety projects that make streets safer for people walking, biking, and taking transit. Addressing the long-term transportation funding challenge requires a fair approach that accounts for all users—not placing new burdens on families choosing more affordable and efficient transportation options.
