Burlington’s municipal electric department is offering a temporary increase to its electric vehicle (EV) incentives to help offset the expiration of the federal tax credit for EV purchases.

The municipal utility boosted EV rebates on the purchase or lease of new EVs to $5,000, and $5,700 for income-qualified customers. These are increases from the prior levels of $2,300 and $3,000, respectively. BED plans to make these boosted incentives available through the end of 2026 or as long as incentive funds remain, whichever comes first, in an effort to make EV purchases as affordable as possible.

Burlington uses several strategies and outreach tools to ensure the community is aware of these rebate opportunities. These include various podcast episodes, articles and updates in community papers and on local notice boards, through press releases, in announcements to the Commission and City Council, and via the BED website. Additionally, BED’s Policy and Equity Analyst spends time at community events and tables at the local library and at several local non-profits serving Burlington’s disadvantaged community members to share news and information on these rebates and other opportunities.
