Data Centers

As the level of government closest to residents, mayors have both the trust and legal authority to decide where, if, and how to build data centers. Developed in response to mayors’ requests, this resource outlines policy options for local governments seeking to ensure responsible data center development. This model law was developed primarily by the Model Climate Laws Initiative, in partnership with Climate Mayors, the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia Law School, and Climate Xchange, developed this model law.
