Climate Mayors, Partners urge NHTSA to maintain 2024 Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards for passenger cars and light trucks

Climate Mayors, C40 Cities, ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability USA, and the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia Law School (Sabin Center) respectfully submit the following comments on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) proposed “Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient (SAFE) Vehicles Rule III for Model Years 2022 to 2031 Passenger Cars and Light Trucks” (SAFE Rule III). We urge NHTSA to maintain the existing Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards for passenger cars and light trucks, set in 2024, rather than adopt the SAFE Rule III.
