Climate Mayors / NACTO urge lawmakers to strengthen BUILD America 250 Act

WASHINGTON, DC.—In a joint letter to Congressional leaders, Climate Mayors and the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) urge lawmakers to strengthen the BUILD America 250 Act by increasing direct investment in local transportation, expanding proven safety programs, and equipping communities to address affordability and safety at their source. On behalf of mayors and city transportation officials who manage America’s streets, transit networks, and infrastructure used by millions of people every day, the letter offers a joint-perspective on the positive changes made by the BUILD America 250 Act as well as recommendations to the bill as Congress continues work on a long-term surface transportation reauthorization. “While we welcome the continued federal investment and partnership, we believe a long-term federal reauthorization of our nation’s surface transportation programs should do more than extend or consolidate existing programs; it should position American cities—the heart of our economy–to meet the transportation challenges of today, tomorrow, and future generations,” the letter reads.
