Climate Mayors' Statement on the Short-Term Continuing Resolution and Surface Transportation Extension

WASHINGTON, DC.—“Cities across the country are relieved that Congress avoided a shutdown and kept transportation programs running through the extension of the Surface Transportation Bill, but this short‑term fix still leaves a serious gap by letting funding for several key infrastructure programs lapse in what amounts to roughly a 25 percent cut in the investments that keep people moving safely and affordably,” said Climate Mayors Executive Director Kate Wright.

“These dollars support the transit systems millions rely on to get to work, school, and medical appointments; they fund roadway safety projects that prevent crashes and save lives; and they build the national EV charging network that gives drivers more choices and lowers long‑term transportation costs.

At a moment when families are already stretched by high gas prices and rising household expenses, Congress should be expanding affordable transportation options—not allowing essential investments to fall off a cliff.
